The Catawba is a purple-red seedless grape that originally came from America. It is popular for making juice (frozen juice makes awesome ice lollies), wine and preserves.
The vine leaves can also be stuffed with meat and vegetables and eaten as wraps, while the tendrils make health teas with many benefits. This tea can ease hypertension, the symptoms of menopause, toxins, problems in the bladder and kidneys, high cholesterol and poor circulation. It also has anti-ageing and cancer-fighting properties.
The Catawba Grape produces a small thicker skin grape and leaves are green and a little leathery on top with soft, white, velvety hairs on the underside.
Grapes can produce fruit during their growing period, however only after 3 years will they produce clumps of fruit.
Flowers are self-pollinating therefore only one plant is required.
