Prunus persica 'Transvalia' – Transvalia Peach

Product Description

Transvalia Peach is a South African-developed yellow dessert peach known for its attractive, medium-sized fruit with a red blush over a yellow background and juicy yellow-to-orange flesh. It has a sweet flavour and a firm, fine texture and is classified as a clingstone peach. The fruit typically ripens from mid-November and the tree has a semi-upright growth habit with moderate vigour.

Transvalia is a popular choice for home fruit gardens and is self-fertile, meaning a single tree can produce fruit without requiring another peach tree for pollination.

Recommended Growing Medium & Compost

Transvalia performs best in fertile, well-drained loamy soil. Good drainage is particularly important for peach trees because poorly drained soils can lead to root problems.

Recommended:

• Good-quality loamy garden soil
• Well-decomposed compost incorporated into the planting area
• Organic matter to improve soil structure
• Ensure excellent drainage

Recommended Fertiliser

For Transvalia Peach, use a balanced fruit-tree fertiliser in early spring as new growth begins. After fruit has set, a higher-potassium fertiliser can be used to support fruit development, size and sweetness. Avoid excessive nitrogen, which can encourage excessive leafy growth.

A suitable Garden Mecca recommendation:

• Balanced fruit-tree fertiliser in early spring
• High-potassium fertiliser after fruit set
• Mature compost as an organic soil conditioner
• Follow the fertiliser manufacturer's recommended application rates

• ✂️ Pruning: Annual pruning while dormant is important for maintaining size and encouraging productive new fruiting wood
