Product Description

Agapanthus Blue is a classic, evergreen perennial producing striking round heads of blue, trumpet-shaped flowers held high above lush, strap-like green foliage. Indigenous to Southern Africa, this plant is valued for its hardiness, water-wise nature, and reliable summer flowering. It is ideal for borders, mass plantings, coastal gardens, containers, and feature beds, adding bold colour and structure to any landscape.

Size When Fully Grown

  • Height: ± 60–100 cm (including flower stems)
  • Width: ± 50–80 cm
  • Forms dense, clump-forming plants that gradually spread over time.

Best Growing Conditions

  • Light: Full sun to partial shade
    • Best flowering occurs in full sun.
  • Soil: Well-drained soil; adaptable to most soil types
  • Watering: Moderate; drought tolerant once established
  • Climate: Suitable for most South African regions
    • Tolerates coastal conditions and light frost.
  • Feeding: Apply a balanced fertiliser in spring and summer for optimal flowering.
  • Maintenance: Low; remove spent flowers and divide clumps every 3–5 years if overcrowded.

Common Pests & Diseases

Agapanthus is generally pest resistant. Occasional issues may include:

  • Snails and slugs (especially on new growth)
  • Aphids on flower stems
  • Root rot in poorly drained soils

Toxicity to Animals

  • Mildly toxic to pets and livestock if ingested
  • Sap may cause skin irritation in sensitive individuals
