Philodendron Erubescens "Imperial Red" 30cmPot

Philodendron 'Imperial Red' – Red Philodendron – 30cm Pot

Product Description

Philodendron 'Imperial Red' is a striking, self-heading tropical evergreen celebrated for its dramatic, colour-shifting foliage and bold architectural presence. New growth emerges in vivid shades of fiery brownish-red and glossy deep burgundy, before gradually maturing into an opulent, dark forest-green with subtle red undersides and wine-coloured stems.

Unlike climbing varieties, 'Imperial Red' maintains an upright, bushy rosette form with broad, leathery, paddle-shaped leaves. Presented in a substantial 30cm pot, it makes an immediate designer statement—whether placed as a showstopping focal point in bright indoor spaces, used to bring lush drama to a covered patio, or planted in protected, frost-free garden beds beneath high tree canopies.

Recommended Growing Medium & Compost

Plant in a fertile, coarse, and free-draining growing medium. For potted plants, use a high-quality potting mix blended with perlite, orchid bark, and peat or coco coir to ensure optimal aeration and prevent root rot. For garden beds, incorporate generous amounts of rich organic compost and leaf mould into light, well-draining soil.

Recommended Fertiliser

Feed every 4–6 weeks during spring and summer with a balanced liquid houseplant or foliage fertiliser diluted to half strength. Reduce feeding in autumn and winter when growth naturally slows down.

Growing Conditions

☀️ Light: Bright, indirect light is ideal to maintain vibrant burgundy coloration. Avoid direct, harsh afternoon sun which will scorch the leaves; tolerates moderate shade well.

💧 Water: Water thoroughly, then allow the top 3–5cm of soil to dry out before watering again. Ensure the pot has good drainage holes; never leave the roots sitting in stagnant water.

🌱 Soil: Rich, loose, airy, and well-drained with high organic content.

✂️ Maintenance: Wipe leaves gently with a damp cloth periodically to keep them glossy and dust-free. Trim off yellowing lower leaves at the stem base to maintain a neat appearance.
