Syzygium paniculatum (Australian Brush Cherry)

Product Description

Syzygium paniculatum is a dense, evergreen shrub or small tree valued for its glossy green foliage, neat growth habit, and excellent hedging performance. It produces clusters of small white flowers followed by decorative red to pink berries. This plant is widely used in formal hedges, privacy screens, topiary, and container planting, making it a versatile and popular choice for South African gardens.

Size When Fully Grown

  • Height: Typically 3 m – 6 m if left unpruned
  • Spread: Approximately 2 m – 4 m
  • Easily maintained at 1.5 m – 3 m as a hedge with regular trimming.

Best Growing Conditions

  • Light: Full sun to partial shade.
  • Soil: Well-drained, fertile soil; adapts well to most soil types including clay and sandy loam.
  • Watering: Moderate watering; water regularly during establishment. Drought tolerant once established.
  • Temperature: Prefers warm temperate climates; tolerates light frost.
