Syzygium paniculatum, commonly known as Brush Cherry or Eugenia, is a dense evergreen shrub or small tree widely used for hedging and screening. It is highly valued for its glossy green leaves and vibrant red new growth, which adds continuous colour and visual appeal.
This plant forms a compact, bushy structure and responds exceptionally well to pruning, making it ideal for formal hedges, topiary, and privacy screens. Small white flowers may appear in summer, followed by pink to red edible berries.
Hardy and adaptable, Brush Cherry performs well in a wide range of South African conditions and is a popular choice for residential and commercial landscapes.
