🌼 Salvia White

Botanical Name

Salvia farinacea (white-flowering cultivar)

Common Names

  • White Salvia
  • White Sage (ornamental)
  • Mealy Sage (white form)

📌 Product Description

Salvia White is a reliable, long-flowering ornamental perennial valued for its elegant upright spikes of pure white flowers and neat, compact growth habit. It provides excellent contrast in garden beds and containers and is highly attractive to bees and beneficial pollinators.

This salvia is heat-tolerant, low-maintenance, and ideal for South African gardens, performing exceptionally well in borders, mass plantings, and large pots. Regular trimming encourages continuous flowering throughout the warmer months.

📏 Size When Fully Grown

  • Height: ± 40–60 cm
  • Width: ± 30–45 cm
  • Growth Habit: Upright, compact, well-branched

(Actual size may vary slightly depending on climate, soil, and care.)

🌱 Best Growing Conditions

  • Sunlight: Full sun to light partial shade (best flowering in full sun)
  • Soil: Well-drained soil; adapts to most garden soils but dislikes heavy clay or waterlogged conditions
  • Water: Moderate watering; drought-tolerant once established
  • Feeding: Light feeding in spring; excessive fertiliser reduces flowering
  • Maintenance: Remove spent flower spikes to encourage continuous blooming

🌦️ Planting & Growing Season (South Africa)

  • Best Planting Time:
Spring (September–October) after the danger of frost has passed
  • Flowering Season:
Late spring through summer and into autumn (October–April)

In frost-free or mild coastal areas, planting can also be done in early autumn.

🌼 Uses in the Garden

  • Borders and edging
  • Mass plantings for impact
  • Containers and patio pots
  • Pollinator-friendly gardens

🌍 Why Choose Salvia White

  • Clean, bright white flowers
  • Long flowering season
