Description:
A striking architectural succulent, Aloidendron barberae is one of Africa’s most impressive aloes, forming a single, upright stem crowned with dense rosettes of long, recurved blue-green leaves and an elegant, sculptural silhouette. This specimen is ideal as a focal feature in gardens, rockeries, conservatories or container planting where space permits. Its winter flowers are tubular and coral-orange to rose-pink, attracting nectar-feeding birds and pollinators.

Size When Fully Grown:

• Height: Typically reaches 8–18 m in landscape settings (one of the tallest tree aloes).
• Spread: Mature crown can reach 4–6 m+ depending on conditions.
• Stem: Thick, woody trunk that develops substantial girth over time.

Note: Growth to full tree size takes many years; young plants will be much smaller initially.

Best Growing Conditions:

• Light: Full sun to partial shade. Performs best with at least 6 hours of direct sunlight daily.
• Soil: Well-drained, gritty or sandy loam; avoid heavy, water-retentive soils.
• Watering: Drought-tolerant. Water infrequently but deeply, allowing soil to dry completely between waterings. Reduce watering in winter.
• Temperature: Prefers warm conditions (approx. 21–27 °C). Not frost-tolerant when young; protect from temperatures below ~5–10 °C until established.
• Fertiliser: Generally low nutrient requirement; light feeding in active growth season can be beneficial but not essential.
