Care & Maintenance

• Light: Position in an open location receiving full, unfiltered daily sunlight. Avoid shaded spots, which drastically reduce flowering.
• Soil & Drainage: Plant in well-draining, acidic, nutrient-poor soil. Ensure the planting site never retains excess standing water to protect sensitive roots.
• Fertilising: Do not fertilise. Pincushions are extremely sensitive to commercial fertilisers, phosphates, compost, and bone meal; native soils provide all necessary nutrients.
• Watering: Provide regular deep watering while young. Once established, rely primarily on natural rainfall supplemented by occasional deep watering during extended dry periods.
• Mulching: Apply a coarse layer of organic bark or gravel mulch around the base to suppress weeds and stabilize root temperatures, keeping the stem crown clear of heavy moisture buildup.
• Pruning: Lightly prune spent flower stems back after the flowering season finishes to encourage strong branching, improve air circulation, and maintain a neat shape.
