The Majesty Palm is an elegant evergreen palm with a graceful, upright form and long, arching, feather-like green fronds. Native to Madagascar, it naturally grows along rivers and streams, which explains its preference for consistent moisture, high humidity and rich, well-drained soil.
With its lush tropical appearance, Ravenea rivularis makes an excellent feature plant for gardens, patios, courtyards and large containers. It is particularly attractive when planted as a specimen or grouped with other tropical foliage plants.
Ravenea rivularis
The Majesty Palm needs a growing medium that is moisture-retentive but well drained and well aerated. Its natural habitat is consistently moist, but its roots should not sit in stagnant water.
Recommended Garden Mecca growing medium:
For garden planting, enrich the existing soil with mature compost while ensuring that excess water can drain away.
Majesty Palms are relatively nutrient-demanding and can develop yellowing foliage when nutrients such as magnesium and iron are insufficient. A palm-specific fertiliser containing micronutrients is therefore preferable to a general-purpose fertiliser.
Recommended:
For outdoor cultivation, it can tolerate full sun to partial shade once acclimatised, but in hot climates protection from the harshest afternoon sun can help prevent foliage damage
